AGM Report for 2014/15
Our numbers have been higher than usual this year, ranging between 15 last summer, down to 10 over the winter and back up to 14 now. About half the boys (and one girl) come from Brinkworth, but the rest come from the Somerfords, Dauntsey, Wootton Bassett and quite a number recently from Bradenstoke.
Five boys moved up to Cubs during the year.
I continue to be the sole leader supported by Emma. She is still helping me as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award; however she goes off to University next year and will be sorely missed. The parents provide good support as weekly helpers.
Good weather last summer enabled us to spend most weeks out of the hall and in September we visited Braydon Maize Maze. This was thoroughly enjoyed by the Beavers and siblings, especially the hot chocolate drinks afterwards. We only lost one Beaver.
We have mostly followed the seasons and festivals with our programme, but have tried several new sessions this year.
During National Space Week we learnt about and made our own satellites and at Harvest we had an apple evening and made apple sculptures. We had a lovely evening learning all about orang-utans during Orang-utan Awareness Week and in a science evening we conducted water based experiments and made lava lamps. The Beaver Leader learns a lot too during these sessions – yet often finds the Beavers know more than she does!
