Supporter’s Review of 2018/19

The 1st Wootton Bassett Scout Supporters’ fundraisers, Sandy, Linda and Nicola, were joined by Ed during the year. We’d like to thank Ali, who stepped down earlier this year due to other commitments, for all her help over the last couple of years.  It is with regret that due to personal circumstances Nicola will be unable to continue leading the Supporters, leaving a currently unfilled gap for a Chair and other roles, including managing accounts and running the weekly Bonus Ball fundraiser. If you can help, please speak to your section leader or one of the committee ASAP to ensure that we can continue to fundraise for the group.  All are welcome.

Over the past year or so we have been fundraising to make improvements to the toilet block. We are delighted to announce that we reached our target earlier this year and have informed the exec committee that they can proceed with the upgrade….watch this space!

So how did we reach our target? Well, a grand total of £3963 was raised from all the events over the year, with the silent auction raising over £275 profit (£50 less than last year); a big thank you to all the companies who donated and everyone who made a bid.

Also, we raised £153 from a cake stall and soft toy tombola on the high street. Thank you for all the donations of cakes and toys. Our next cake stall is planned for 6th July 2019, so please send us your delights and come along and support us.

The Bonus Ball fundraiser raised a profit of £715 this year. Whilst this figure is up from last year there are still many numbers unallocated; currently available 5, 10, 16, 18, 20, 27-29, 32, 37-39, 41, 42, 45, 46, 48, 51-59.  If you would like to join or would like further details, please contact your Section leader or email

Many of you volunteered with Lydiard Fireworks this year, from which we received £1,850.  Another amazing sum, especially considering there seemed fewer people attending than previous years!  Special thank you to Linda, Anne and Dave for cooking and all our other helpers in the serving tent, we will need you again in November!

At the end of November, we ran a tombola stall and Children’s Spin the Wheel at the Christmas Lights event on the High Street which made £390 profit, a slight increase from last year.

We have also received £700 from the Vodafone Matched Funding Charity Scheme thanks to Matthew’s continued contribution to our fundraising events. Vodafone will match up to £350 per quarter for fundraising events in which Matthew participates.

The printer/copier donated to the Scout Group is available in the Scout Hut for all Sections to use if they wish.

We appreciate your continued support with these events. We are always looking for more helpers and new ideas, so please let us know if you can help – we really need your help!
